About this place
Bumburet, Rumbur and Birir.
Bumburet, Rumbur and Birir are home to the Kalash people, a small indigenous community with a distinct language, animist religion and calendar of festivals found nowhere else on earth. Wooden houses stack up the hillsides, women wear elaborately embroidered black robes and beaded headdresses, and the Chilam Joshi spring festival and Uchal harvest festival draw visitors from across the world to witness dancing, music and centuries-old rituals still practised much as they always have been. Visiting respectfully, on the community's own terms, is central to how we run this trip.
