Khaplu Palace

Ghanche, Gilgit-Baltistan Palace 2,600 m
About this place

The prettiest fort in Baltistan.

Built in 1840 as the residence of the Raja of Khaplu, this palace-fort was restored by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture and now operates in part as a heritage guest house. Carved wooden lattice windows, a central courtyard and Tibetan-Balti architectural details set it apart from anything else in the region, and its position above the Khaplu valley, framed by orchards and the Karakoram's eastern peaks, makes it one of the most photogenic buildings in Baltistan.
