About this place

A 4,500 year old metropolis of the Indus.

One of the world's earliest planned cities, Mohenjo-daro's grid-patterned streets, covered drainage system and the famous Great Bath predate the pyramids' neighbouring dynasties by centuries. Excavated from the 1920s onward, the site gives a rare, walkable window into the Indus Valley Civilisation, brick granaries, residential quarters, and the raised citadel mound where priest-kings are believed to have governed. A small on-site museum displays original artefacts, including the seals and figurines that first proved this civilisation's sophistication to the world.
