The 14th-century tomb of the Sufi saint Shah Rukn-e-Alam rises over Multan's old city in bands of deep blue and turquoise tile mosaic, one of the finest examples of Multani brick-and-glaze architecture anywhere in Pakistan. The octagonal structure, topped by one of the largest domes in South Asia, has drawn pilgrims for seven centuries, and the surrounding shrine complex still hosts qawwali performances and Sufi devotional gatherings that give Multan its reputation as the City of Saints.
